The myth of MACEDONIA

In September of 1991, with the declaration of independence of the until then Socialist Republic of Macedonia, which was one of the six federal units within the former Yugoslavia, the world first learned about the existence of an ethnic group that call themselves "Macedonians". They have been calling themselves so since 1945 without any problems. They celebrated their independence in a typical post-soviet style, with fireworks, champagne and nationalist songs and slogans. Maps of a so called "Ethnic Macedonia" were published, a flag with the "Star of Vergina" was voted as a national flag and the historians started to publish their new "discoveries" and "theories" about the antique roots and origins of this people.
To the majority of the citizens of this new state this was something new. Until 1991 they were taught that they have Slavic origins. The older and less educated had never even heard of Alexander the Great or Philip. This was no obstacle however for the FYROM academics and historians. They had successfully brainwashed and indoctrinated their people in the past, stealing and falsifying heroes and events from their neighbours. Among others, let us mention the medieval king Marko, who was a Serbian, or Tsar Samuil, Gotse Delchev, Yane Sandanski or Krste Misirkov, who were Bulgarians. They tried even to claim that Scenderbeg and Mother Teresa were "Macedonian"!
Using their savoir faire in the matters of intelligence and counterintelligence (which they learned from the former Yugoslav secret services), they successfully divided the Albanian political party into two, then three, then four different parties with confusing and inefficient political programs, strategies and objectives. Thus, a major problem was resolved, and the creation of the Macedonian myth could continue without the interruption from the Albanian factor. Yes, they probably managed to silence the Albanian politicians, but who can silence the old Albanian grandfathers who knew and remembered that there was a time before 1945 when this slavophonic people were identifying themselves as Serbs, Bulgarians or simply as Slavyany (Slavs)! If you cross the border and go to northern Greece, were a small number of Slavic speaking people abide in a dozen or two villages, the situation is still the same. Only a very small percentage will identify themselves as "Macedonians". The rest of them will say that they are Serbs, Bulgarians or simply Slavs!
As we said, the populist politicians and their "learned" servants from the "Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts" were not bothered by any of these facts. They thought that if they could repeat a lie a thousand times then the lie would come true.

  Thessaloniki is yours?
One of the favourite slogans  of the FYROMian Slavs is:"Solun e nash!" which translated to English means "Thessaloniki is ours!". I never really understood what makes them claim this beautiful city, especially knowing that only a few slavic speaking people lived there at any given time before 1912. It is known that from 1492, when the Ottoman Empire welcomed 20 000 Jewish refugees from Spain and Portugal, and until the great fire of 1916 the Jewish population constituted the ethnic majority in Thessaloniki.
Here's what the city statistics say for the year 1913:
Total population: 157 000
Jews: 80 000
Turks: 35 000*
Greeks: 35000
Others (Albanians, Serbs and Bulgarians): 7 000
*Note that all the population of muslim faith was listed as Turks. Among those 35 000 many were Albanians, Greeks, Bulgarians and Domne Jews that had converted to Islam

I would really like the hot shots from Skopje to explain by what logic should Thessaloniki be theirs?
Do they think that simply by de hellenizing  its name and calling it instead Solun it will automatically give them the right to say it's theirs?
